Living near Los Angeles we have the pleasure of hosting some great trunk shows from deisgners who live in LA. Last week we had Anthony Casalena here with his designs, and now we have samples from Brenda Castiel. Brenda Castiel has been knitting on and off since she was in her teens, but became somewhat obsessed with it in 2007. She loves squishy wools for the short, mild Los Angeles winters, and likes cottons and blends for the rest of the year. Brenda firmly believes that even beginner knitters can create something beautiful and useful, so she strives to keep patterns simple yet original!
Here are the designs that she has been kind enough to let us display here at the shop until October 24th, when Brenda will be in the shop to visit with us from 12-3pm.
One yarn that we love here at Anacapa Fine Yarns is Classic Elite's Classic Silk. It's great for Ventura weather, because it's a wonderfully soft blend of cotton and silk. I knit a sweater out of it when we first got it and I really enjoyed both knitting with the yarn and wearing it!
The company, Classic Elite, that makes the yarn sent us some lovely samples knitted with the yarn that we will be hosting for a little while in the shop. If you are looking for a project to keep you cool in the warm weather (even though its Fall!), you may want to consider one of these projects!
Blue Q is a fun company that makes these great recycled plastic bags, perfect for hauling around all your knitting, stash, and notions. Not only are they cute and eco-friendly, they are also super affordable! They make great gifts, for both your knitting and non-knitting friends. Check out the sizes and designs we have:
Pencil Cases - $5.75 each
These little pouches measure 4.25" x 8.5", and are perfect for crochet hooks, notions, double-pointed needles, or organizing your lipsticks in your purse, which is what the one I just bought today is going to be used for!
Zipper Pouches - $6.75 each
These zippered pouches are a bit bigger than the pencil pouches, 7.25" x 9.5", and again are great for notions, needles, or small projects, I've carried a sock project around in one of these.
Handy Totes - $10.50 each
These are my favorite project bags from Blue Q. These Handy Totes measure 10" high x 8.5" wide x 4.5" deep, and make the perfect bag for hauling around your shawl, sweater, or any project you are working on. They are also great as lunch bags!
Shoulder Totes - $15.50 each
Shoulder Totes are great for larger projects, and have an outer pocket as well as a zippered top. I use one of these to carry around a blanket project I'm working on. These measure 11" high x 15" wide x 6.25" deep.
Shoppers - $12.50 each
As their name suggests, these totes make great shopping bags. Take them with you to the yarn store to haul home your new stash additions, or to the grocery store! These are also great for larger pockets, and have a matching inner pocket, as well as both handles and shoulder straps. These measure 15" high x 16" wide x 6" deep.
Now that summer is winding down and Fall is just around the corner (Pumpkin Spice Lattes anyone?), we are getting more and more yarns coming in all the time. You've probably noticed all the new yarns I've been posting about lately (if not, scroll down!), but today I want to make sure I share with you some of our staple yarns that we have restocked on.
If any of you don't know the wonderfully talented designer Susan B. Anderson, you really should jump over to her Blog and get acquainted. I love her design aesthetic, and her most popular designs are her toy patterns. We have a few of her books here at the shop, and just today the mail brought us some more of her adorable toy designs.
First off we have the 2 cutest booklets for knitting dolls:
Mary, Millie, & Morgan are cute little girls that come with lots of clothing options! You can knit them in a dress, a shawl, a fancy skirt, or a comfy cardi. Ben and Buddy are a little boy and his best friend. You can knit him a hat, a fair isle pullover, and pants, and a leash for Buddy!
We also have 3 of her individual patterns available:
It's no secret that knitters and crocheters love bags, pouches, totes, anything to carry or attempt to organize your projects and notions! Recently we got in some really cute bags and organizers from Della Q, and if you are in the market for a new bag, or if you have a birthday coming up and need to send your loved ones an idea of what you might like as a gift, check out these Della Q options!
Della Q has 2 new prints, and we ordered 4 different bags in each print:
The "Isabella Bag"
The Hanging Circular Needle Case
The "Tess" Yarn Caddy
and the "Pippa" Yarn Dispenser
All these bags are really useful, and I love their new prints, especially the blue.
Are you an avid sock knitter? Do you like crocheting hexagon animals in sock yarn? Or are you just a collector? I love sock yarn, it's what my stash is mostly full of. I can't resist a fun-colored skein of sock yarn when I see one. I feel like you can go crazy with color when it comes to socks, because most of the time, people aren't going to see them! If you are also a fan of funky-colored sock yarn, or even just self-striping sock yarn in general, you may be interested in the newest sock yarn here at Anacapa.
First up we have re-stocked in the Regia 6-ply sock yarn. Their 6-ply is a thinker sock yarn, that lands in the realm of a DK weight. They have solid stripe options, as well as some fun patterning colorways.
I used this yarn last year to knit a pair of socks for my husband, and he loves them. I love that they knitted up so quickly! Here's picture of how the self striping colorways knit up:
We also FINALLY got some of the Arne and Carlos colorways in Regia's Design Line. If you don't know Arne and Carlos, you can check them out on their website. They have designed some great colorways for Regia, and we have 6 of them in the shop. Their colorways have been super popular, and we are excited to finally have our hands on some!
If you have some sock knitting to do for your holiday gifts, swing by soon and pick up a few skeins, they will probably go fast! Happy Knitting!
We often get asked about kits here at the shop, and we just received some adorable kits from 2 different companies. I have to admit that I am a huge sucker for cute packaging, and these kits knock it out of the park. These would be great gifts for your fellow knitting friends, or treat yourself to one!
We have these kits from RYN yarns that come packaged like little treats:
In each little kit you get 3 balls of pure silk yarns in coordinating colors that you can use to make this cute and very wearable scarf. Stick a pair of needles in the top and wrap it up with the pattern, and you have a quick and easy gift:
We also have kits for a few cute baby projects from Appalachian Baby Design. Do you have a baby shower or 2 in your future? I know I do. These kits feature cute patterns paired with organic cotton yarn for a very sweet project.
