Last month we hosted a Classic Silk Trunk show from Classic Elite Yarns here at the shop, and this month we have another Classic Elite Trunk Show, as well as a Trunk show from Skacel. Check them out below, and stop by the shop to see these samples in person!
The first is from Classic Elite and features their "Bella Lino" linen/rayon/cotton blend yarn:
The other Trunk Show we are pleased to host is from Skacel and features the amazing Hikoo yarn "Kenzie", a wool/alpaca/angora blend.
Missoni Inspired Lap Blanket by Diana Harker
We just got in a lovely new fingering weight yarn called "Llama Lace" from Queensland. It is a 100% alpaca yarn in natural colors that makes for a very soft and special finished project.
In addition to this beautiful yarn, we also have a free set of patterns that goes with it. You could make a lovely matching hat and scarf, a cute pair of earrings, and even a throw blanket:
This yarn would also be well suited to any fingering-weight accessory patterns, like shawls and scarves. New time you are in the shop, give it a feel!
When I started researching patterns for this post I had the intention of giving ideas for projects to knit or crochet for Halloween Costumes. As I scrolled through Ravelry and clicked on patterns that caught my eye or made me laugh, I realized I had a theme going - a nerdy theme!
I am a fan of all things nerdy (superheroes, comic books, sci-fi, etc.) and I know a lot of knitters and crocheters share in this, as evidenced by the LARGE amount of nerdy-themed costume patterns I found on Ravelry. This is just a small sampling of the fun projects I found that would be great for either Halloween costumes, or just general cosplay. We still have over a week until Halloween, and if you are looking for a costume idea, one of these might be for you!
Let's start off in Space! If you are a fan of Star Trek, you may enjoy some of these:
Maybe Star Trek is not for you. You may be more of a Star Wars fan (or both! No shame!) I found lots and lots Star Wars themed patterns, here's just a couple:
Any Doctor Who fans out there? Check out this awesome Dalek baby dress, Ood Ski mask, and knitted Sonic Screwdriver!
If you love classic video games, you'll probably love these patterns:
I had such a hard time narrowing down all the patterns I wanted to share with you, there were so many! I hope you enjoyed this post! Happy Crafting!
Today marks the end of the Year Round Wreath Knit-a-Long, hosted by Ewe Ewe Yarns. If you made it to our Show and Tell event last week, you got to see my finished wreath in person. It now decorates the front door of the shop for the Fall season!
Here's the finished picture:
I had a lot of fun with this project, if any of you have followed along and have made your own, let me know! I'd love to see it!
Today is Day 3 of the Year Round Wreath KAL! Today is the day I crochet the flowers to attach to the wreath and get it all finished up! I finished seaming it the other day:
And got going on my crocheted flowers this morning!
The last day of the Knit-a-Long is next Tuesday, when we show off the finished wreath, so check back and see it completed, or you could come to our Show and Tell tonight and see it in person!
We are getting new yarns all the time here at Anacapa Fine Yarns, one of these is a new yarn from HiKoo called "Sueño". Sueño is a super soft and squishy blend of Superwash Merino Wool and Bamboo. Here are the specs:

Hi everyone! Today is Day 2 of the Year-Round Wreath Knit-a-Long hosted by Ewe Ewe Yarns. You can find all the info about this knit-a-long on their blog, and click here (or scroll down!) to see my post from Day 1!
So far I've picked out the colors for my wreath, cast-on, and knit the covering that gets seamed around the wreath:
This morning I started the seaming progress. It's stitched together with one of my favorite techniques, Mattress Stitch.
The third Day of the Knit-a-Long will be posted Thursday (October 15th), when I get to crochet up some flowers to decorate my wreath with. I'm having a lot of fun making this project, and if any of you are knitting-a-long, please let me know, I'd love to see your progress! It's also not too late to join the fun, swing by the shop and pick out your colors or Ewe Ewe Wooly Worsted today.
One of our favorite yarns here at Anacapa Fine Yarns is Ewe Ewe Wooly Worsted. It's soft, washable, and coming in a wide range of great colors. The great people over at Ewe Ewe Yarns are hosting a Knit-a-Long this month for their super cute "Year Round Wreath". Throughout the next few weeks on their blog, they will be posting how-tos and tips for knitting the wreath, how to put it together, and how to decorate it with cute crocheted flowers.
This is a great project for newer knitters and crocheters, because the knitting itself is super simple, as well as the crocheting for the flower decorations. If you knit but don't crochet, you could decorate the wreath with fake flowers or leaves or ornaments from the craft store - the sky is the limit!
The most fun part of the KAL is picking out the colors you will use to make your wreath! Make it red, white, and green for Christmas, choose shades of blue for Hanukkah, or make it red, white, and blue for the 4th of July. Ewe Ewe Yarns has put together some ideas for color combinations as well. Choose one of these combos or put together your own!
For all the info on this project, click here, and follow along here on our blog as we Knit-a-Long with you! Here are the colors I chose for mine:
Join us in knitting along with Ewe Ewe Yarns, and check back here next Tuesday, October 13th to see my progress so far!
Rowan's new "Shine" design line features these beautiful packages of Swarovski crystal beads designed to match the colors of their Rowan Kid Silk Haze.
We have them in 5 beautiful colors, and if you buy one ball of Kid Silk Haze and one package of the beads, you can make this shawl that is a free pattern:
We all know that knitters and crocheters love their bags, and Binkwaffle has just delivered to us some really cute and fun project bags I know you will love! All these bags are fully reversible and come in 2 different sizes. The smaller Dumpling Bags are great for socks, baby sweaters, shawls, scarves, etc. The larger Dumpling Bags are great for larger projects, like sweaters, throws, or multiple smaller projects!
