Knitting Classes | Crochet Classes | Other Fiber | Ongoing Classes

Please note: we expect classes to fill quickly. Register in advance to secure your space. Students must pay for their class when signing up. Unless noted, students should purchase all supplies listed before attending class, including any pattern or notions. Class participants receive a 10 percent discount on class materials. In the event you must cancel your reserved spot, we must be given at least five days notice before the class date in order to refund your fees. If you do not, you forfeit your entire registration fee; however, if your place is filled by another student, we will refund your fee. Class samples are available to view at the shop. Also, please be on time for class.

Skill Levels are described as follows:

Confident Beginner: Knitting-Know how to knit and purl confidently. Crochet- Know the chain, single crochet and double crochet confidently.

Intermediate: Knitting and Crochet-In addition to knowing the basic stitches, also are familiar with at least one increase and decrease as well as simple stitch patterns, color changes and finishing.

Beginning Knitting
Three Sessions-Saturdays, May 17, 24 and 31, 4 pm to 6 pm$50, supplies not included. Skill level: No prior knitting experience. Instructor: Anne Lecrivain-Cozzoli
This basic class will start you on your knitting adventure. Learn the basics: cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. Also learn several increases and decreases to add shaping to simple projects, as well as some easy poncho variations. Come see what all the fuss is about!

Block-a-Month Afghan-Beginner
Monthly-Every fourth Saturday. Next class: Saturday, July 26, 9 a.m. to noon. Three classes $75 or $30 per class; supplies not included. Skill Level: Know how to knit and purl confidently. Instructor: Karin Wilmoth
Learn a wide variety of skills as you work toward completing an afghan. You will learn how to read knitting patterns and gain confidence in all your knitting projects.

Block-a-Month Afghan-Intermediate
Monthly-Every second Saturday. Next class: Saturday, July 12, 9 a.m. to noon. Three classes $75 or $30 per class; supplies not included. Skill Level: Intermediate. Instructor: Karin Wilmoth
This class covers more intermediate level techniques. This is a continuing class but students at the appropriate skill level can jump in if space is available.

Sock Club
Monthly-Every first Saturday. Next class: Saturday, July 5, 9 a.m. to noon . Three classes $75 or $30 per class; supplies not included. Skill Level: Intermediate. It is recommended that you either have previously taken the Sock Knitting or Toe Up Sock class, or that you have knit a sock before. This is not a first sock class. Instructor: Karin Wilmoth
Socks, socks, and more socks! Toe Up, cuff down, socks with no heel, or toes; how many ways can you knit a sock? Let us count the ways, and meet once a month. While we may not get through a sock every month, we will learn a different aspect and technique every time. Have you ever had a fitted arch? What about sideways socks? The possibilities are endless, and always rewarding. So set aside the first Saturday morning of the month, and join us as we expand our skills as sock knitters.

Knit Fixes
One Session-Wednesday, June 4, 6 pm to 8 pm, $25, supplies not included. Skill level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Lois Varga
If you are a fairly new knitter tired of ripping due to errors, this class is for you. Begin to understand stitch structure, learn how to unknit, and fix your knitting without ripping the whole thing out. This class can honestly make the difference between a frustrated knitter and a happy knitter. We want YOU to be a happy knitter with a beautiful, completed project!

Simple Hat
One Session-Friday, July 25, 6 pm to 9 pm; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Anne LeCrivain-Cozzoli
Interested in making something in the round? Want to make something to match your tons of gorgeous scarves? Need a quick gift idea? In the Simple Hat class, you will learn the magic and easy formula for nearly any yarn and stitch. You will also learn how to work with both circular and double pointed needles.

Continental Converts
One Session-Monday, July 28, 6 pm to 9 pm; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Anne Lecrivain-Cozzoli
Do you currently knit the English or American method by throwing your yarn with your right hand. Would you like to increase your knitting speed by nearly double? Continental knitting, where the yarn remains in an easy to access spot in your left hand, is an alternative to holding the
yarn in the right hand (throwing). In a very fluid movement, your knitting moves along in a most efficient manner. Come try this alternative and complete your projects in less time!

Introduction to Entrelac
One Session-Sunday, July 6, Noon to 3 pm, $40, plus materials, Skill Level: Intermediate. Instructor: Jane Davis
Entrelac describes a pattern of squares knit at right angles to the neighboring square, making a basket weave pattern. Learn the basics of entrelac as you create a scarf using variegated yarn that seems to magically produce blocks of color.

Split Neck Top Down Baby Sweater
Two Sessions-Fridays, July 11 and 18, 6 pm to 9 pm; $50, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Anne LeCrivain-Cozzoli
This baby sweater is sized to fit 6 mos., 12 mos., and 18 mos. The top down construction, casting on at the neck edge, leaves little to no finishing at the end of the game. The fun, simple stripe pattern allows for some spice with color play. You will explore raglan shaping created by increases; striping, knitting in the round, and picking up stitches.

Romantic Lace Wrap
Two Sessions-Sundays, July 13 and 27, Noon to 3 pm., $50, supplies not included. Skill Level: Intermediate, Intro to Lace class is strongly recommended. Instructor: Karin Wilmoth
Made popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, lace knitting has come around again, and is more popular than ever. A lovely shawl is just the thing around the shoulders on a chilly spring morning, so join us as together we will create a beautiful shawl, while learning to follow a chart, and learning some well-placed increases, and decreases.

Pattern Design
One Session-Saturday, July 19, 9 am to 4 pm (with a break for lunch), $60, supplies not included, Skill Level:  Confident Beginner. Instructor: Gloria Tracy
Do you have a stitch pattern you'd like to use, but can't find a suitable pattern?  The answer - make your own. You'll find the guidelines you need to turn your idea into a wearable finished project.
Gloria will teach you how to layout a pattern for cuff to cuff. She will also cover several versions of a more traditional sweater shape, this will include figuring a back, two fronts and set-in sleeves. She'll show how to make this shape with and without side seams. Gloria will share her formulas for figuring sleeve caps. She'll cover gauge and how to apply it, and several less traditional methods of joining pieces. A schematic will be provided for you to fill in your own measurements to use in all the design techniques. After each design technique is taught, you'll use the guidelines and your measurements to create a custom pattern. Between each design technique, she'll teach a variety of design skills including sleeve caps, joining techniques, spacing increases and decreases, pick up ratios, etc.

Mystery of Gauge
One Session-Sunday, July 20, Noon to 3 pm.; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Barbara Selesnick
Unlock the mystery of knitting the item that you've envisioned by learning the facts about gauge. In this class finished item. You will learn how to read ball-band information, learn about the properties of different yarn weights, along with washing symbol information. Finally, learn how to use your gauge to create patterns in Sweater Wizard, the easiest computer knitting program on the market.

Beginning Crochet
Three Sessions-Mondays, May 19, June 2 and 9, 6 pm to 8 pm
$50, supplies not included. Skill Level: No prior crochet experience. Instructor: Elisa Purnell
This class will get you started on your crocheting adventure. Learn the chain stitch, single and double crochet, simple increases and decreases. We will also learn how to do a granny square. Additional skills and/or topics will be covered as time permits.

Block-a-Month Afghan-Crochet
OR- Beginning Crochet, Level 2 (and 3)

The Crochet Block-A-Month class has evolved into Crochet 102. Take your crocheting to the next level by learning a new technique or stitch pattern each month. Spring/summer classes include Antique Star Stitch (May), Filet Crochet (June) and Entrelac Crochet (July). Each month's pattern is for a square or block, but techniques and stitch patterns are easily converted for use in other projects

Crochet Beaded Shawl
One Session-Tuesday, July 22, 6 pm to 9 pm, $30, supplies not included, Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Elisa Purnell.
Beads and lace-weight mohair add elegance to this light as a feather wrap. We'll work 'on the diagonal' to make a triangular shawl. Most of the beads will be added as we go, so there's no need for pre-stringing. In class you'll learn several beading methods, in addition to diagonal crochet techniques.

Spiral Hat
One Session-Saturday, July 26, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm, $30, supplies not included, Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Anastasia Poland.
Summer is a fantastic time to work on those small, lighter projects, and this fabulous hat fits the bill! Worked in the round, this (reversible) spiral hat is a bit different than your run-of-the-mill toppers - it incorporates two colors without requiring fastening off and joining each color repeatedly. Read: No weaving in endless loose ends! You'll love the technique and how it prevents the pooling effect in variegated yarns.

  Intro to Spindling
One Session-Saturday, July 5, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm., $30, plus a material fee of $5 payable to the instructor (for fiber). Additional supplies not included. Skill Level: No prior spinning experience required. Instructor: Susie Meach
Learning to use a handspindle is a practical and portable option for producing your own yarn. We will discuss types of handspindles, fibers suitable for handspindling, spinning and plying techniques. Next you will be introduced to -and practice- the techniques of hand spindling.

Spinning Essentials
One Session-Saturday, July 12, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm., $30, plus a material fee of $10 payable to the instructor (for fiber). Additional supplies not included. Skill Level: No prior spinning experience required. Instructor: Susie Meach
This class will introduce you to spinning on a spinning wheel. We will discuss fiber preparation for both spindle and wheel spinning. Types of spinning wheels and their advantages will be discussed as will spinning fibers and their uses. Techniques for preparing your own fiber from raw fleece to blending with commercially available roving will be presented and practiced.

Rigid Heddle Loom Weaving
Two Sessions-Thursdays, July 17, 5:30 to 9:30 pm and July 31, 6 to 9 pm, $60, plus materials. Instructor: Deb Jarchow
Learn to use a rigid heddle loom and use up your stash. This method of weaving is fast and easy to learn. In this class, you will learn to set up the small rigid heddle loom and weave at least one scarf. Once you've learned the technique, you can complete a scarf in just a few hours. Think of all the last minute holiday gifts you can make while enjoying your yarns in a new way. This exciting way to make use of fancy and fun yarns is quick and easy, with the same portability as knitting.

Spinning 101
Three Sessions-Mondays, August 4, 11 and 25, Noon to 3 pm, $100, plus a material fee of $15 payable to the instructor. Additional supplies not included. Wheel rental will be available for a limited number of students. Skill Level: No prior spinning experience required. Instructor: Susie Meach
Ready to commit to learning to spin on a spinning wheel? This is a hands-on course of three sessions covering: spinning wheel basics, handspinning techniques and fiber preparation. Additional spinning methods will be included as time allows.

Thursdays, 3 to 6 pm.; $8 Don't understand the pattern? Need some help getting started with a new project? We can help. Free Drop In Class with your yarn purchase at Anacapa Fine Yarns. We want you to feel the satisfaction of having completed a beautiful project!

Let's Knit (or Crochet) for Charity
Fridays, 10 a.m. to noon. Get together to knit or crochet for a good cause! We are now working on hats for cancer patients, baby blankets for babies in NICU and hats and gloves for the homeless. Local hospitals and charities are the recipient of all of these projects. They then distribute the items to those in need.

Thursday Night Get Together (KTOG)
Thursdays, 6 to 9 p.m. Everyone is welcome to this informal knitting and crochet group. It's fun to get together with others that share your passion for fiber arts. Meet new people, get inspiration for new projects, and make new friends. Bring a project and join the fun.
