Please note: we expect classes to fill quickly. Register in advance to secure your space. Students must pay for their class when signing up. Unless noted, students should purchase all supplies listed before attending class, including any pattern or notions. Class participants receive a 10 percent discount on class materials. In the event you must cancel your reserved spot, we must be given at least five days notice before the class date in order to refund your fees. If you do not, you forfeit your entire registration fee; however, if your place is filled by another student, we will refund your fee. Class samples are available to view at the shop. Also, please be on time for class.

Skill Levels are described as follows: 
Confident Beginner: Knitting-Know how to knit and purl confidently. Crochet- Know the chain, single crochet and double crochet confidently.
Advanced  Beginner: Knitting and Crochet-In addition to knowing the basic stitches, also are familiar with at least one increase and decrease as well as simple stitch patterns, color changes and finishing.
Intermediate: Knitting and Crochet-Know the basic stitches, and are comfortable with more complex stitch patterns, several increases and decreases, color work, and finishing.

Class Refund Policy:
In the event you must cancel your reserved spot, we must be given at least five days' notice before the class date in order to refund your fees. If you do not, you forfeit your entire registration fee; however, if your place is filled by another student, we will refund your fee.



Knitting Classes

Beginning Knitting
Three Sessions-Mondays, March 15, 22 and 29, 6 pm to 8 pm, $50, supplies not included. Skill level: No prior knitting experience. Instructor: Anne Lecrivain-Cozzoli

This basic class will start you on your knitting adventure. Learn the basics: cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. Also learn several increases and decreases to add shaping to simple projects. Come see what all the fuss is about!


Block-a-Month Afghan-Beginner
Monthly-Every second Saturday. Next class: Saturday, February 13, 9 am to noon. $30 per class; supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: K. Wilmoth

Great North American AfghanLearn a wide variety of skills as you work toward completing an afghan. You will learn how to read knitting patterns and charts. This will help you gain confidence in all your knitting projects. Jan. - Monkey Wrench. This block will teach us how to pick up stitches, and use contrasting yarn to create a knitted version of a traditional quilting pattern called the Monkey Wrench. Feb. - Hearts & Cables; Our local designer, Susan Levin, created this square which teaches us short rows, and how to use slipped stitches to create a wonderful motif. March/April - The Thorn Flowers, by Gloria Tracy, is a dramatic square that uses only a four-row repeat pattern. We will also use a three-needle bind-off on the right side to add to the drama.  May - Garter Coils, a garter st. square is anything but square. We will learn to swirl our knitting with well-placed decreases, and triangles. We will also explore garter st. grafting.


Block-a-Month Afghan-Intermediate

NEW-Great American Aran Afghan
Aran knitting is an amazing way to make pictures with your knitting. With just knits and purls and some re-arranging of stitches, the possibilties are endless. Each month we will learn a different cable application starting in Feb. - Celtic Berries. The berry stitch is a fun, textured stitch to learn. If you've never learned to read a chart, then this class is for you. March - Holy DNA! The scientist in me loves this knitted version of a DNA strand, and more berries! April - Bobbles & Twist. This month we will juggle two charts with ease, and learn a bobble st. May - Hearts Abound! Our own Barbara Selesnick designed this square with wonderful twisty hearts.


Scarf To Sweater
Four Sessions-Mon, January 25, February 22 and March 8, 6 pm to 8 pm; $75, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: A. Lecrivain-Cozzoli

Made a couple or twenty scarves? Ready to do something new but a little worried? This sweater or vest is for you! With the work of 4 to 6 short scarves, respectively, you will have whipped up all of the pieces needed to complete a cozy modern vest or sweater. You will also learn how to make button tabs that can be added during the finishing process. Little to no counting and very simple shaping will lead to an easily finished garment. Betty Sweater
Four Sessions-Wednesday, January 27, February 10, February 24, and March 10, 6 pm to 8 pm; $75, supplies not included. Skill Level: Advanced Beginner. Instructor: Anne Lecrivain-Cozzoli

This little sweater is a set-in sleeved jewel. Two exciting features are its classic tailored construction and its simple, interesting all-over stitch pattern. Designed by Heather Smith Callis from http://theyarniad.blogspot.com, this cropped sweater will be one that you want to make in every color, perfect for tossing over all of your spring dresses and tank tops. The pattern is written to fit many sizes, 28” (32”, 36”, 40”, 44”, 48”, 52”, 56”) bust.


Sock Knitting

Once you make one pair of socks, you feel the need to make a pair for everyone in the entire family! Come and learn how to knit circularly and work the heel and the toe of the sock. You will learn the basics on either double-pointed or two circular needles.


February Lady (or Baby) Sweater

This sweet sweater by Pamela Wynne of flintknits.com is a grown up of Elizabeth Zimmerman's February baby sweater in Knitter's Almanac. A popular project to work from the neckline down, this item is fully customizable and incorporates many exciting techniques such as a one row buttonhole and a simple lace pattern. The style and stitch pattern make for a sweater that you will want to make in every color to go with everything in your closet. If you would like simply to sample this lovely sweater, you also have the option to make the original baby sweater instead.


Beaded Knitting-Fauxbius Wrap
Two Sessions-Saturdays, February 6 and 20, 9 am to noon; $50, supplies not included. Skill Level: Advanced Beginner. Instructor: Karin Wilmoth

This faux moebius, or "fauxbius" wrap makes a lovely wrap jeweled with beads. We will learn all the skills you need to make a Circulate: stringing on beads, provisional cast-on techniques, working with beads, chart reading, kitchener stitch and a beaded attached i-cord edging.


Entrelac Scarf

Everyone asks - What is Entrelac? It comes from the French, meaning interwoven. It is a surprisingly simple technique once you grasp its principle, and it is an enjoyable way to knit with self striping yarns, as they make their own blocks of color. Also called Basketweave, we will learn how to pick up stitches, working one block at a time to create a marvelously textured scarf.

Keep that midsection toasty this winter with this fun-to-make, fashionable-to-wear vest. You can use all one color of either worsted or DK weight yarn or combine two, three or more coordinating colors. The leaf motif design is particularly effective for showing off beautiful multi-color yarn without creating those unattractive stripes or blobs.


Cross Your Heart Vest
Three Sessions-Wednesdays, February 10, 24 and March 10, 6 pm to 9 pm, $90, supplies not included, Skill Level: Advanced Beginner. Instructor: G. Tracy


If you know how to knit and purl, this vest can be your first garment. You’ll learn how to use more than one color in a row, how to move from one color to the next without leaving a hole, how to make an attractive bind off when the edge is not enclosed in a seam and how to add stitches to the end of a row. At the end of these three classes you’ll be the proud owner of a flattering, easy-to-wear vest and will have added several slick tricks to your knitting repertoire.


Super Simple Felted Tote

Inspired by the need for quick satisfaction and easy all season gift giving, this bag came along to answer both needs. The easiest bag recipe you will ever meet, this project features no sewing assembly, play with color, and an exploration of the very fun world of knitted felting. You have the option to customize the size, handle options, and bag bottom. We will be knitting in the round and utilizing a 3 needle bind off; so, if those are new concepts, this is a safe place to play with them. You can also knit this as a blank canvas for "painting with fiber" by means of needle felting later.


Continental Converts

Do you currently knit the English or American method by throwing your yarn with your right hand? Would you like to increase your knitting speed by nearly double? Continental knitting, where the yarn remains in an easy to access spot in your left hand, is an alternative to holding the yarn in the right hand (throwing). In a very fluid movement, your knitting moves along in a most efficient manner. Come try this alternative & complete your projects in less time!


E. Zimmerman’s-Baby Bog Jacket

Imagine knitting a simple square - no purls, just knits - and turning it into a great sweater; all in one piece. In this class, we will learn how to use temporary stitches, a three-needle bind-off, and how to apply an I-cord edging to make buttonholes, and a nice finished edge. This is a child's version of Elizabeth Zimmerman's Bog Jacket, and knits up easily and quickly.


Garter Stitch Top Down Shawl
One Session-Friday, February 26, 6 pm to 9 pm; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner, Intro to Lace class strongly recommended. Instructor: A. Lecrivain-Cozzoli


This shawl is the best of many worlds. For the multicolor version, an elaborate effect is created by simple striping and clever yarn choices; the shaping is simple created by yarn overs; and the sizing is easily controlled by learning how to start from the top edge. For the equally stunning single color version, the decorative shaping and lightness of the fabric make for an elegant piece. For both, the big pay off is the ruffled edging - icing on a chocolate cake.


Beaded Knitting-Undulated Wave Scarf

Beads add beauty and glamour to your knitting, and in this class, you will learn how to string beads onto your yarn, and how to work them into a beautiful scarf. The use of yarn-overs make it easy to create wave patterns that go on and on.


Felting for Knitters

Expand the range of your creative knitting projects by adding in felted wool shapes. Learn a simple way to felt wool roving into sheets that you can cut up to spice up your next one of a kind creation. After felting the wool, we will embroider the edges in order to pick up stitches and knit them right in. The wool shapes can be stitched, beaded and embellished to add spark and fun. Take your felt home to incorporate into a scarf, a hat or bag- whatever you can imagine.


Knit Buttons
One Session-Monday, March 1, 6 pm to 9 pm; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Anne Lecrivain-Cozzoli


Buttons are the icing on the sweater and it is a great joy to pair the right button with the right finished object. Learn some exciting ways to make customized buttons for your knitted project. This can add a higher level of tailoring and sense of careful unity to your already beautiful work, as well as open your mind to a new layer of creativity to explore with texture and color.


Top Down Bohus Tam
Two Sessions-Saturdays, March 6 and 20, 10 am to noon; $40, supplies not included. Skill Level: Intermediate. Instructor: Karin Wilmoth

The tradition of Bohus-style of knitting uses angora fiber and is similar to Fair-Isle, but differs in that it uses purls to provide texture and design to any knitted item. While we won't use angora, we will explore this way of knitting in the round by following a colored chart to create a lovely, floral tam from the top downward.


Knit Fixes II
One Session-Saturday, March 6, 4 pm to 6 pm, $25, supplies not included. Skill level: Intermediate. Instructor: Lois Perry


This class takes off where Knit Fix I left off. Included will be how to correct a cable gone astray, and other co-mingled stitch patterns that have misbehaved. Unknitting lace patterns will also be discussed and more.


Mystery of Gauge
One Session-Sunday, March 7, Noon to 3 pm.; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Barbara Selesnick


Unlock the mystery of knitting the item that you’ve envisioned by learning the facts about gauge. In this class we cover what a gauge is and why it is extremely important to knitting, along with essential information that a swatch can tell you about your finished item. You will learn how to read ball-band information, learn about the properties of different yarn weights, along with washing symbol information. Finally, learn how to use your gauge to create patterns in Sweater Wizard, the easiest computer knitting program on the market.


Blocking Your Way to Success
One Session-Sunday, March 14, Noon to 3 pm.; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Barbara Selesnick


Has anyone ever said to you that your knitted garments look store bought?  It will happen when you learn the tricks and techniques of “Blocking”.  Learn several different methods of blocking, the blocking properties of different yarns, stitch integrity within the process, and the ability to create garments that will always fit the way YOU want them to.   You will also learn to correct many mistakes with finished items through blocking.  It’s a visual process that is quick & easy to learn.


Scarf to Sweater: The Sequel

Sweater knitting is a many splendor thing and this sweater is meant to be the next step for you scarf knitters. This sweater or vest, made of two to four scarves, is the next step for those who made the original Scarf to Sweater OR easy enough to be a first sweater. You have some easy style choices in this class - worsted or bulky and sweater or vest. This pattern will fit a wide array of sizes: to fit 30(32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60)" bust.


Creative Knitting Bag
One Session-Sunday, March 28, 10 am to 4 pm. (with a break for lunch); $60, supplies are not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: B. Kralovic-Logan


Create a one of a kind bag using creative knitting techniques that allow you to design as you go. Learn ways to knit organic shapes that curve and flow to form the design of your bag. Learn about linings and handle choices. The class will cover everything you need to plan out your project, get it started and leave ready to finish your unique bag.


Buttonhole
One Session-Tuesday, April 6, 6 pm to 9 pm; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Anne Lecrivain-Cozzoli


Buttonholes are easy and an exciting part of the finishing process. They are also a way to add your own touch to a garment's design. This class will teach you at least 6 choices for buttonholes, including chain loops without ends to weave in and a one row buttonhole.


Sweater Finishing
Two Sessions-Wednesdays, April 7 and 14, 6 pm to 8 pm; $40, supplies not included. Skill Level: Advanced Beginner. Instructor: Lois Perry


You’ve had the pleasure of knitting the sweater. You’ve got all your pieces (back, front, and sleeves) all done. Now it’s time to put it together and you’re scared!! It’s not knitting anymore and you it’s not as enjoyable. This is the part that can make or break the garment. Let’s learn how to do it right. We will learn how to sew the seams together using mattress stitch and three-needle bind off. Also, learn how to pick up stitches for the neckline edging and button band.


Child/Adult Hoodie

A Knitting Pure and Simple pattern, this hooded pullover sweater is a wardrobe must for everyone in the family. In baby/toddler sizes and women's/small men's chest sizes 36", 40", 44", 48", 52", this top down sweater is one that you will make over and over as you master raglan shaping, working in the round, picking up stitches, etc. This pattern is a great first sweater.


E. Zimmerman’s-Adult Bog Jacket
Four Sessions-Tuesdays, April 13, 27, May 11 and 25, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm; $75, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Prerequisite: EZ Baby Bog Jacket class (or Mini) is strongly recommended. Instructor: Karin Wilmoth

Introduction to Steeking

Want to knit everything in the round!?! Steeking, or cutting your knitting, is the key to working most sweater patterns in the round, ensuring that patterns for fronts and backs always match and adding speed to your knitting process. We will work on machine sewn steeks, crocheted steeks, and hand stitched steeks. We will also discuss how steeking can be used to adapt patterns to the round.


Toe Up-2 Socks on 2 Circulars
Two Sessions-Saturdays, April 24 and May 8, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm; $50, supplies not included. Skill Level: Intermediate. Instructor: Karin Wilmoth


In this class we will learn how to make two socks at the same time, while using the same two circular needles, based on your gauge. We will learn how and where to measure your foot, and how to work a short row heel.


Log Cabin Knit
One Session-Monday, April 26, 6 pm to 9 pm; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Anne Lecrivain-Cozzoli

Log Cabin Knitting is a technique adapted from quilting. It is an innovative way to play with self striping yarns, color combinations, and scrap yarn. Come and find out the many applications of this fun process – everything from household accessories to wearable pieces. This class will be especially beneficial if you want to learn how to pick up stitches or want to practice that skill.

Advanced Beginning Crochet
Three Sessions-Monday, April 12, 19 and 26, 6 pm to 8 pm, $50, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Elisa Purnell


You’ve learned the basics – now what? Take your skills to the next level with this series of three classes. In Class One you’ll learn to use ‘raised’ stitches such as front and back post double crochet to make intricate looking (but easy to do) cables. Class Two will demystify bobbles, popcorns, and berries; what are they and which one should you use? In Class Three we’ll practice increases and decreases and color changes while learning the ever-popular ripple pattern.


Saturday Crochet Pattern-a-Month

Want to improve your crochet skills but not sure how to do it? Crochet Pattern-a-Month is the class for you. In addition to learning to read and understand patterns, each month you'll learn a new technique or stitch pattern to build your skills and make you a more confident crocheter. Tuesday Crochet Pattern-a-Month

Bored with projects aimed at very new crocheters and ready to take on more of a challenge? The Tuesday night Crochet Pattern-a-Month may be what you're looking for. Each month you'll learn a new technique or stitch pattern to build your skills and make you a more confident crocheter. The skills you learn can be used for a wide variety of projects in addition to the monthly class project. January 19 – Gumdrop Hat, February 16 – Tunisian Shells, March 16 – Daisy Wheel stitch pattern, April 20 – Tunisian Short Row.


Crochet Socks
Two Sessions-Saturdays, February 20 and 27, 4 pm. to 7 pm.; $50, supplies not included. Skill Level: Intermediate. No prior sock making experience is necessary. Instructor: Elisa Purnell


Why should knitters have all the fun? Crocheted socks are warm, comfortable and - with just a few tricks that you’ll learn in class – fun to make. You’ll learn to crochet in the round as we make a pair of custom fit, wear-in-your-shoe socks. Please note that you’ll try on the sock during class to ensure a perfect fit. No prior sock crocheting experience is needed for this class. Students who took the previous crocheted sock class will have the opportunity to learn a new heel and leg pattern.


Tunisian Shawl
One Session-Sunday, February 21, Noon to 3pm; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Elisa Purnell


For this class, we’ll take your knowledge of basic Tunisian stitches, add some ‘how-to’ for increases, decreases and shaping, and end up with a shawl that looks lovely in a variety of yarn-weights. Tunisian is worked with a large hook, so this project should go fast. For this class, a prior knowledge of Tunisian crochet is helpful but not required.


Doily Rug
One Session-Monday, February 22, 6 pm to 9 pm; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Elisa Purnell


Have you ever wanted to crochet a doily or table runner but the skinny thread, tiny hook and complicated instructions put you off? Or maybe you just want a beautiful rug for that special place in your home? We’ll remove the fear-factor by using super bulky yarn, a big hook and step-by-step instructions to create a soft, lacy floor covering. Big yarn + big hook = super fast project.

Hexagon Baby Sweater

This could be one of the easiest, and cutest, baby sweaters you ever make. We’ll make two 6-sided granny squares (hexagons), fold them, seam them, then add ribbing, buttons, and we’re done! Size is adjustable from newborn to toddler (or bigger with modifications you can do.) If you can ‘granny’, you can do this sweet jacket.


Tunisian Crochet Scarf
One Session-Monday, March 15, 6 pm to 9 pm. $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Elisa Purnell


Are you curious about Tunisian crochet, the latest trend in the crochet world? Some consider it a cross between knit and crochet. You'll consider it fun as we make a “simple” scarf using Tunisian simple stitch and purl stitch. You’ll learn tips and tricks to make the most of your new craft, including how to keep your project from curling (which Tunisian crochet is prone to do.) For this class, no prior knowledge of Tunisian crochet is necessary.

Kumihimo (Japanese) Braiding
One Session-Tuesday, March 16, 6 pm to 9 pm; $30, Material fee of $7 payable to the instructor., Skill Level: No previous braiding experience required. Instructor: Deb Jarchow


Learn to create a beautiful flat strap that can be used as a bag handle, bracelet, bookmark or more. Or try your hand at making a lovely round braid that can be used for a bracelet, drapery tie back, glasses cord or more! Learn this braiding method and find dozens of uses for these attractive straps and cords.


Paint with Fiber-Exploring Needlefelting
One Session-Saturday, April 3, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm; $30, supplies not included. Skill Level: No previous needlefelting experience required. Instructor: Karin Wilmoth.


This class is an expansion of the Super Simple Felted Tote class, but is open all who would like to learn how to use fiber to create art on their felted items (knitted, crocheted or other felt). Using the proper tools and other resources, we will 'paint' designs using colored yarn and fiber on our felted 'canvases'.


Lace Weave on the Rigid Heddle Loom
Two Sessions-Tuesdays, April 20, 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm, and May 4, 6 pm to 9 pm. $60, plus materials. Skill Level: Some experience with the rigid heddle loom is helpful, but not required. Instructor: Deb Jarchow


If you already know the basics on your rigid heddle loom, learn to create beautiful lace patterns using pick up sticks. The complicated looking patterns can be achieved with relative ease. Make a sampler, table runner, or scarf while mastering this fun technique.


Wet Felted Bag
One Session-Sunday, April 25, 10 am to 4 pm (with a break for lunch); $60, supplies not included. Skill Level: Confident Beginner. Instructor: Brecia Kralovic-Logan

Come experience the ancient art of felting. Using hot water and our own hand power we will transform fluffs of wool into a sturdy felted fabric bag. Your felted bag will have a pocket, handle, and closure all felted from wool.


Sewing for Your Knitting or Crochet
One Session-Sat, May 1, 12:30 pm to 6 pm; $45, supplies not included. Skill Level: No prior sewing experience required. Instructor: A. Lecrivain-Cozzoli.

Want the perfect finishing touch to your fabulous felted, knitted, or crocheted bag? Bring a finished bag and learn how to add a customized lining. No sewing experience necessary. Prerequisite: Please have a finished bag (including felting, if applicable) to work with in class.

Friday Charity Knitting & Crochet

Get together to knit or crochet for a good cause! We are now working on hats for cancer patients; hats, gloves and blankets for the homeless; and baby blankets for babies of the girls at the Tender Life Maternity Home. Local hospitals and charities are the recipient of all of these projects. This group meets every Friday morning from 10 am to noon .

Thursday Night Get Together (KTOG)
Everyone is welcome to this informal knitting, crochet, spinning and weaving group. It’s fun to get together with others that share your passion for fiber arts. Meet new people, get inspiration for new projects, and make new friends. Bring a project and join the fun. KTOG is from 6 pm to 9 pm, shop is also open during this time.
